Course Overview

Students will develop an in-depth knowledge of marine mammal biology, ecology, and conservation strategies. Leveraging the diverse marine mammal populations along the Oregon Coast, students gain hands-on experience with the tools and methods used to study and protect these sentinel species.

  • FHTF - $45.00 Flat Fee.

Prerequisites

  • Minimum grade of C- in BI/BI H (211, 212, 213) or BI/BI H (221, 222, 223) or BI/BI H (204, 205, 206).

Class Schedule

  • Summer 2026 - Summer Session 2 (4 Weeks) 
  • June 22 - July 17, 2026 
  • Meets Tue/Th from 8:00am - 12:50pm at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, OR.

Location and housing

This class is offered at Hatfield Marine Science Center. Additional times (earlier mornings) as part of the field component of this course. Possible field trip activities as assigned by instructor. Students interested in residing at Hatfield should complete a housing application by priority deadlines listed on the housing website.
