Coastal Field Housing Awards for Students

Because of generous donor support, Coastal Field Housing Awards are available for students who are seeking field housing at the coast and in need of financial assistance. These awards are for students studying at the Hatfield Marine Science Center.

Eligibility -- All must be true:

  • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student currently enrolled in an Oregon State University degree program(s). 

  • Will be in residence at the Hatfield Marine Science Center's field housing. 

  • Must have a current housing application submitted to Hatfield housing prior to applying to the Coastal Field Housing Awards. 

  • Important: Applicants must fit into one of these categories:  

    • Graduate Students: 

      • Enrolled in OSU courses at Hatfield 

    • Undergraduate Students:  

      • Enrolled in OSU courses at Hatfield, OR  

      • Enrolled in Hatfield-based or other OSU campus courses (such as Ecampus) and performing independent work experience at Hatfield (such as lab research experience or internships), OR 

      • Performing independent work experience at Hatfield through a program requiring, but not paying for, field housing, such as lab research experience or internships.  

Award Details 

  • This award is limited to Hatfield Marine Science Center field housing costs only 

  • Up to $450 per award. Please note that our award program relies on generous donations, and thus we may not be able to fully or partially fund all applications.  

  • Multiple awards per term are available. 

  • Awards will be distributed into the student's OSU account after Hatfield Marine Science Center Housing is confirmed. 

Application Details

  • Apply on ScholarDollars by searching “MACO Coastal Field Housing”. You must log in with your OSU credentials. 

  • If performing independent work at Hatfield, you must include the name and contact information of the OSU staff mentor, supervisor, or lab you will work with during the award term.

  • If you are taking courses at Hatfield Marine Science Center, please list the course number and title (e.g., FW 115 – Introduction to Sharks) for each course you are enrolled in or plan to enroll in during the award term. 

  • You must have a current housing application submitted to Hatfield housing prior to applying to the Coastal Field Housing Awards. 

  • Studies at Hatfield further the student’s marine-related academic pursuits and are well-communicated. 

  • Financial need must be evident and well-communicated. 

  • We assess how effectively applications respond to the prompt questions in ScholarDollars to determine eligibility. Applications that are well-crafted are more likely to receive higher rankings during our evaluation process. 

  • Past Coastal Field Housing award recipients can reapply, though new applicants will be prioritized in the selection process. 

    • If applying for more than one term, submit a separate application for each term.

  • Application open:  Friday, August 1
  • Application close: Friday, August 29
  • Funds to be used for Fall 2025

Winter 2026

  • Applications open: Wednesday, November 19
  • Applications close: Friday, December 19
  • Funds to be used for Winter or Spring 2026

Spring 2026

  • Applications open: Monday, February 9
  • Applications close: Friday, March 13
  • Funds to be used for Spring 2026

Summer 2026

  • Applications open: Monday, April 13
  • Applications close: Friday, May 15
  • Funds to be used for Summer 2026
