Welcome to Marine and Coastal Opportunities
Marine and Coastal Opportunities (MACO) is Oregon State University’s central hub for connecting students and faculty with the Oregon coast. We collaborate across the university to provide support and information for learning, teaching, and exploring coastal communities and ecosystems. Students gain practical experience through field courses, research projects, internships, and extracurricular activities. The OSU Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, Oregon, serves as the primary location for these opportunities, offering cutting-edge facilities for learning and discovery. Additional locations, such as the Astoria Seafood Lab and Port Orford Field Station, provide even more opportunities for student involvement along the coast. The university’s small boat and research vessel programs enable students to venture beyond the coastal fringes to the ocean. Together, OSU academic departments and partner organizations help students develop practical skills, deepen their understanding of marine and coastal issues, and prepare for careers. With a variety of programs to suit diverse academic interests and goals, we’re here to help you make the most of your journey. Have questions? Don’t hesitate to reach out!
