Year-Round Internships

  • In the Innovation Lab (iLab) internships,  students will focus on the engineering and design associated with studying the marine world. A background in engineering is not a prerequisite to the internship. We are looking for students who have a deep desire to develop solutions for problems facing marine research and a broad desire to more deeply explore the marine world. The bulk of the internship will be focused on progressing an independent research/design project. Interns will also work on designing or manufacturing short-term projects that come through the lab during the internship.
  • Undergrad or Graduate: Undergrad

  • The Fisheries and Wildlife Undergraduate Mentorship Program (FWUMP) exists to ensure that all students, both graduate and undergraduate, have a gateway to meet this standard of excellence within the Department of Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Sciences (FWCS) at Oregon State University (OSU). The Program uses a mentor-mentee pairing process, which connects undergraduate students seeking research experiences and professional training with graduate students and Postdocs.

The program is open to all OSU students with interests in fisheries, wildlife, ecology, conservation, natural resources, and related fields, including non-FWCS majors, Postbac, and Ecampus students. To date, the program has successfully paired over 100 undergraduates with 35 graduate students and Postdocs in mentorships spanning one to six terms. We accept applications year-round until available opportunities are filled. The majority of new research opportunities become available in early fall term for fall/winter mentorships and late winter term for spring/summer mentorships.

  • U.S. Fisheries and Wildlife Service programs are designed to provide current students and recent graduates with practical hands-on job experiences that can lead to established careers within government service.

  • The Aquarium Science Program is widely recognized and respected throughout the industry as one of the best programs in the country to learn the science of aquatic animal husbandry. Our students learn the technical aspects of working with many different species of fishes, along with corals, and other invertebrates and learn marketable skills to earn positions working in public aquaria, fish hatcheries, research institutions, aquaculture facilities and other facets of the industry.
  • Please note, this program is not an internship. This program can be taken as either a certification or a 2-year associate's degree.
  • Undergrad or Graduate: Both

  • The Northwest Climate Adaptation Science Center (NW CASC) Research Fellowship Program supports research related to climate adaptation for Northwest natural and cultural resource management and provides training in the principles and practices of developing decision-relevant science.
  • Undergrad or Graduate: Graduate

The UNOLS-MATE Marine Technical Internship is an incredible opportunity to be exposed to a wide range of marine technologies, equipment, and marine technical professionals. Interns receive hands-on training and assist with projects ranging from chemical oceanography to marine biology, seafloor mapping surveys, geological studies, ROV missions, and much more!

Applications are due in January, but the applications stay on file for the entire year to fulfill 12-14 week internships year-round
